English Introduction
DAO is a multimedia work combining electronic sound and moving image.
Taking inspiration from the Daoist idea that “the Dao gives birth to One, One gives birth to Two, Two gives birth to Three, and Three gives birth to all things,” the work reflects on how a single state may gradually generate, divide, and unfold into an ever-expanding world. Sound and image are not treated as foreground and accompaniment; instead, they develop in parallel, reflecting and reshaping one another through time.
The creative process began with AI-generated moving images, whose motion, forms, and transformations became points of departure for the music. The electronic sound therefore does not simply illustrate the visuals, but follows its own evolving trajectory. Through processes of emergence, accumulation, division, and dissolution, sound and image continually form new relationships.
Rather than attempting to depict Daoist philosophy literally, DAO uses the continuous transformation of sound and image as a way of reflecting on generation, existence, and infinity.
